Griffin and Schmid Lead the Pack at Charles Schwab Challenge 2025

Ben Griffin and Matti Schmid share the lead at the Charles Schwab Challenge, showcasing top-tier golf performances in Fort Worth, Texas.

Second Round Highlights at Colonial

In an exhilarating display of skill and precision, Ben Griffin and Matti Schmid have emerged as the co-leaders after the second round of the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial. Both golfers are tied at an impressive 11 under par, setting the stage for a thrilling weekend of golf.

Griffin's Stellar Performance

Griffin, who is eyeing a breakthrough season on the PGA Tour, carded a 7-under 63 on Friday. His round included eight birdies, seven of which were from inside 10 feet. Griffin’s only bogey came on the par-4 12th, but he quickly recovered with a 12-foot par save from the fringe. Reflecting on his performance, Griffin said, "I feel like I've kind of made good steps the last couple of years just kind of building to get to that first win. Now that I've got that first win, I feel like it's really freeing me up to come out and be not necessarily more aggressive, but just feel more aggressive, feel like I'm trying to win more. It's definitely been a breakthrough year, but I think there's more to come."

Schmid's Bogey-Free Run

Schmid, a 27-year-old German golfer, has been nothing short of spectacular. Since a double bogey on the par-4 12th in the opening round, Schmid has been bogey-free, accumulating 10 birdies over 24 holes. Seeking his first tour victory in his 79th start, Schmid’s consistent play has positioned him as a serious contender.

Chasing the Leaders

John Pak, the first-round leader, is just two strokes behind the leaders after a solid 68. Pak birdied the par-4 18th to stay in contention. Chris Gotterup, another one-time tour winner, is also in the mix at 8 under par after a bogey-free 65.

Notable Performances

Rickie Fowler, who has been struggling to regain his form, showed signs of a comeback with a 6-under 64. Fowler made the turn in 29 but settled for even par over his final nine holes. "It's definitely coming around," Fowler remarked. "I know it's been slow last year and slow start to the year. Body is starting to feel better, and the game [has] been in a good spot and not very far off. It's a fine line out here. Nice to see things starting to come together a bit."

Scheffler's Struggle

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who won the PGA Championship last weekend, is 10 shots off the lead after a 71. Scheffler, aiming to become the first player since Dustin Johnson in 2017 to win three consecutive starts, made the cut with a shot to spare, extending his streak to 55.

Looking Ahead

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Griffin and Schmid to see if they can maintain their lead. With a packed leaderboard and several top players within striking distance, the final rounds promise to be a gripping contest.
