Jenny Bae Leads LPGA Mexico Riviera Maya Open with Stellar Performance

LPGA rookie Jenny Bae takes a one-shot lead at the Mexico Riviera Maya Open with a strong performance, setting the stage for an exciting weekend.

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico -- The LPGA Mexico Riviera Maya Open has reached its midway point, and rookie Jenny Bae is making headlines. Bae birdied the par-5 18th hole to card another 3-under 69 on Friday, securing a one-shot lead heading into the weekend. Her performance on the challenging El Camaleon course at Mayakoba has been nothing short of impressive, especially given the windy and hot conditions.

Strong Competition Miranda Wang of China delivered the best round of the week with a stellar 65, featuring seven birdies and a clean card. Wang and Brianna Do, who shot a 71, are just one shot behind Bae. Do, who was among four players tied for the 18-hole lead, briefly reached 8 under before a bogey on the front nine slightly marred her round.

Bae's Strategy Bae is focusing on staying positive and minimizing stress as she aims for her first LPGA victory. "There is going to be some stress and pressure added to it, but I think as long as I keep my momentum and just try to stay positive on every shot and every hole, I think I'll be OK," Bae said. Her strategy seems to be working, as she currently sits at 6-under 138.

Other Notable Performances Jenny Shin, another co-leader after Thursday, shot a 72 and is two shots behind Bae. Chisato Iwai and Bianca Pagdanganan, who both opened with 68s, followed with 74s. Pagdanganan was notably slowed by a triple bogey on her 11th hole.

Wang's Approach Miranda Wang has found success by focusing on the par 5s and short par 4s, minimizing mistakes. "There are good opportunities out there, short par 4s and short par 5s. Today, when I did well, I really took the chances," Wang said. She birdied three of the four par 5s, showcasing her strategic play.

Looking Ahead The tournament is the last event before the U.S. Women's Open at Erin Hills, and the field in Mexico reflects the high stakes. Charley Hull, the highest-ranked player in the event at No. 15 in the world, shot a 75 and is nine shots behind. Maria Fassi, representing Mexico, had a 72 and is at 3-over 147, ensuring her participation over the weekend. Gaby Lopez, however, managed only a 73 and missed the cut.

As the weekend approaches, all eyes will be on Jenny Bae as she aims to secure her first LPGA victory in what promises to be an exciting finish to the Mexico Riviera Maya Open.
