Defensive Highlights in Titans Training Camp

As the Tennessee Titans' 2025 training camp progresses in Nashville, linebacker Cody Barton has emerged as a standout player. On Thursday, July 24, Barton registered the first interception of the camp by picking off a pass from quarterback Cameron Ward along the left hash mark. This interception marked Barton's third of Ward's four interceptions dating back to minicamp.

Barton's Insightful Play

Barton attributed his success to recognizing a play the offense had run the previous day. Instead of stopping, he drifted back into the passing lane and made the crucial catch. "Those kinds of mistakes happen," Barton commented. "But it's good to have them in camp early so we can learn from them."

Ward has shown a commendable attitude by approaching Barton after interceptions to understand what he's seeing on the plays. This collaboration aims to prevent future mishaps. Barton nearly secured another interception when Ward targeted a tight end on an out-breaking route, but he dropped the ball.

Offensive Challenges

Overall, the defense outperformed the offense during this session. Ward, despite his struggles, kicked off the camp on a positive note by completing all four of his passes in 7on7 play on Wednesday, July 23. However, he finished the day with five incompletions, one of which was a drop by Gunnar Helm.

The offense primarily focused on the quick passing game, allowing Ward to locate his receivers swiftly after the snap. Ward emphasized the importance of timing, stating, "Everything revolves around timing in my opinion. I just think time and the ball placement will always be everything."

• WR Treylon Burks and CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. got tangled up during a sideline pass attempt. Burks was slow to get up but confirmed he was fine after practice. Brownlee overheated and was seen by trainers but could have returned if needed.
