Jimmy Horn Jr.: The Speed and Spirit Fueling the Carolina Panthers' Rookie Sensation
Discover how Jimmy Horn Jr.'s speed, personality, and relentless energy are making waves at the Carolina Panthers' training camp.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jimmy Horn Jr. is quickly becoming a standout at the Carolina Panthers' training camp, and it's not just his speed that's turning heads. The rookie wide receiver, selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, brings a unique blend of athleticism, personality, and grit that has both teammates and coaches excited.
A Multifaceted Talent
Horn's 4.38-second 40-yard dash speed is well-documented, but it's his playmaking ability that has truly shone during camp. Whether it's his two short touchdown catches or his touchdown-saving tackle on a fake-punt play, Horn has demonstrated that he's more than just a fast runner. His tenacity and willingness to do whatever it takes to help the team have been evident.
"Hey, I'll play anywhere on the field," Horn quipped after a particularly impressive practice session. This attitude is something that his former Colorado teammate, Shedeur Sanders, knows all too well.
The Influence of Coach Prime
Horn spent his final two college years at Colorado under the tutelage of Deion Sanders, affectionately known as "Coach Prime." Sanders, now the head coach at Colorado, played a pivotal role in shaping Horn's approach to the game.
"Jimmy definitely is missed," Shedeur Sanders told ESPN. "A lot of the Colorado players are missed. All of them have different personalities. And Jimmy, I miss seeing his [smile] when we're at practice with his gold grillz."
A Coach's Perspective
Panthers head coach Dave Canales has been particularly impressed with Horn's energy and work ethic. "It's the energy he plays with," Canales said. "He doesn't quit on routes, he continues after the normal part of the protection he can count on. He continues to find space and play fast."
Canales also noted that Horn's speed might be unmatched on the current Panthers roster. "He's just all gas," Canales added.
A Legacy of Speed and Grit
Horn's speed is a product of both genetics and hard work. He credits his mother, a former high school track star, for his quickness. But it's his relentless drive and self-motivation that have truly set him apart.
"I just love the way that he plays football," Canales said. "It's full speed all the time. Some guys, we have to really teach them how to get into a walkthrough mode. He's one of those guys ... everything he does is fast."
A Bright Future Ahead
As Horn continues to impress during training camp, it's clear that he has the potential to make an immediate impact for the Panthers. Whether it's as a receiver, return specialist, or even on defense, Horn's versatility and relentless energy make him a valuable asset.
"Once I really learned the game of football and started playing, it was like, 'If you're gonna step on the field, why not come out here to play?''' Horn said. "That's what we're here for."
With the regular season fast approaching, all eyes will be on Jimmy Horn Jr. to see how he translates his camp performance into real-game success.
