Ha-Seong Kim Shines in Braves Debut Despite Loss to Cubs

Ha-Seong Kim makes an impressive debut with the Atlanta Braves, going 2-for-4 in a narrow loss to the Chicago Cubs.

CHICAGO -- Ha-Seong Kim made his debut with the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, starting at shortstop in a thrilling game against the Chicago Cubs. Despite the Braves' 4-3 loss in the second game of a three-game series, Kim showcased his potential by going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Kim, 29, was claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday and immediately made an impact. Braves manager Brian Snitker expressed confidence in Kim's abilities, stating, "He's going to play pretty much every day. He's going to play shortstop."

Key Highlights:

  • Performance: Kim went 2-for-4 in his first game with the Braves.
  • Versatility: Besides shortstop, Kim can also play second base and third base.
  • Injury Update: Kim had been on the injured list with lower back inflammation since Aug. 21 but reported feeling better before the game.

Team Moves: The Braves also called up left-hander Hayden Harris from Triple-A Gwinnett and placed outfielder Jurickson Profar on the paternity list. Right-hander Wander Suero was designated for assignment.

Career Overview: Kim made his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres in 2021. Over four seasons with the Padres, he hit .242 with 47 homers, 200 RBIs, and 78 stolen bases in 540 games. He signed a $29 million, two-year contract with Tampa Bay in February, which includes a $16 million player option for next year.

Quotes:

  • Brian Snitker: "Good ballplayer. I think that's a good acquisition. Shortstops are hard to come by, and to get an established one like this is pretty good."
  • Ha-Seong Kim: "I'm obviously excited to play alongside a talented group of players. I'm obviously very excited to finish the season on a high note, in a healthy way."
