Trey McBride's Stellar 2024 Season: From Dreams to Pro Bowl Stardom

Trey McBride's breakout performance for the Cardinals earns him a Pro Bowl selection and solidifies his status as one of the NFL's top tight ends.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- In a remarkable 2024 season, Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride not only achieved his goals but also made significant strides in his career, culminating in his first Pro Bowl selection.

Growing up in Colorado, McBride always dreamed of being recognized as one of the elite tight ends in the NFL. His standout performance this season, marked by over 1,146 receiving yards and 111 receptions, fulfilled that aspiration.

"It's obviously a huge honor," McBride expressed. "As a kid, I always imagined making it to the pros and being among the best. This is a huge step in that direction for me, and I couldn't be prouder to bring this recognition back home."

Season Breakdown

McBride's achievements this season were nothing short of spectacular:

  • First in the league among tight ends in targets per route run (30.0%) and team target share (29.6%).
  • Second in receptions (111), receiving yards (1,146), targets (148), and yards per game (71.6).
  • Third in routes run (494) and yards after catch (513).

His impressive stats illustrate how pivotal he was in the Cardinals' offense, especially after the team's former tight end, Zach Ertz, went on injured reserve early in the season.

Development and Commitment

McBride’s 2024 season is a product of his dedication and training. A transformative experience at Tight End University in Nashville helped set the tone for his breakout performance. Despite a slow start with touchdown receptions, McBride remained focused on seizing every opportunity, showcasing the maturity of a true professional.

"I just wanted a chance to prove myself. When I finally got that opportunity, I focused on what I could control and played my game," McBride noted.

Quarterback Kyler Murray has high praise for McBride, asserting there are intricate aspects of his game that reveal his potential for even greater success in future seasons.

Blocking Skills and Overall Impact

Consistency was key for McBride this season. With aspirations to play every game in 2025, he continues to work on improving his skills. His blocking abilities have become invaluable, enabling him to excel in various roles on the field.

“He’s a complete tight end. He blocks effectively and runs routes with precision,” said tight end coach Ben Steele.

McBride's efforts didn't just break individual records; he became the first Cardinals tight end to be selected for the Pro Bowl since Hall of Famer Jackie Smith back in 1970.

“He loves the game, loves to work, and is constantly driven to improve. That growth mindset will take him far in his career,” head coach Jonathan Gannon commented.

As McBride looks forward to more achievements, it’s clear his journey is just beginning, and he’s on track to be a formidable force in the NFL tight end landscape.
