Anna Morris Smashes World Records Twice to Secure European Cycling Gold

British cyclist Anna Morris breaks the individual pursuit world record twice in one day to win gold at the European Track Cycling Championships.

British cyclist Anna Morris made history at the European Track Cycling Championships in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, by breaking the world record twice in one day to clinch the gold medal. The 26-year-old Welsh cyclist first set a new world record during the qualifiers, completing the 4km individual pursuit in 4 minutes 28.306 seconds. She then surpassed her own record in the final, clocking an astonishing 4:25.874 to secure the title and defeat Italy's Vittoria Guazzini.

Morris's performance marks her as the first woman to win the European title in the newly introduced 4km format. Her compatriot Sophie Lewis also competed in the event, finishing in sixth place. Meanwhile, Neah Evans took eighth place in the women's kilo event, while debutant Iona Moir finished 18th. Grace Lister placed fifth in the women's points race.

In the men's competition, Noah Hobbs secured ninth place in the omnium. Overall, Great Britain holds third place in the medal table with a total of 10 medals, including two golds, four silvers, and four bronzes. The championships conclude on Sunday, with British athletes participating in the madison and keirin events.

Anna Morris' achievement not only solidifies her position as a dominant force in track cycling but also highlights Great Britain's continued success in the sport. Her record-breaking performance has set a new benchmark for future competitors.
