Gary Siddons, a 53-year-old from Loughborough, Leicestershire, found his inspiration in the unlikely world of darts. Watching Luke Littler, the young darts sensation, rise to fame after making it to the 2024 World Darts Championship at just 16, Siddons decided to take up the sport himself.

Despite being paralyzed from the waist down due to spina bifida and using a wheelchair, Siddons didn't let his physical limitations deter him. After starting to play darts in December, he quickly realized the potential to create an inclusive darts club that would welcome everyone, regardless of their abilities.

The Birth of Darts for All

With the help of friends and volunteers, Siddons transformed his vision into reality in under eight weeks. The first Darts for All event was held at John Storer House in Ward's End. Approximately 50 people attended, using donated darts and flexiboards that could be adjusted to suit each player's needs.

A Welcoming Community

Danny Higgins, 30, from Leicester, attended the first session. Born with half of his spine missing, Higgins uses a wheelchair and described the experience as a pinnacle moment. "It feels 100 times better to be able to pull that board down and get my own darts," he said. "It's a nice feeling and something I've always wanted to achieve."

More Than Just Darts

Siddons emphasized that the sessions are "not just about darts." They aim to get people out of their homes and into the community. He believes inclusivity extends beyond disabilities and welcomes anyone to join. "I just want to be involved and help the community start something new," he said.

Positive Feedback

The response to the first session was overwhelmingly positive. "It's been beyond anything that I could have expected to be honest," Siddons added. The initiative has not only provided a platform for people to enjoy darts but has also fostered a sense of community and belonging.

The Legacy of Luke Littler

Luke Littler, the young darts star who inspired Siddons, made history by becoming the youngest world championship winner at the age of 17. His journey has proven to be a source of inspiration for many, including Siddons, who continues to make waves in the darts community with his inclusive approach.
