Ronnie O'Sullivan Withdraws from Hong Kong World Grand Prix Due to Health Concerns

Ronnie O'Sullivan withdraws from the Hong Kong World Grand Prix citing health reasons, marking another absence in his illustrious snooker career.

Seven-time world snooker champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has announced his withdrawal from the World Grand Prix in Hong Kong next week, citing medical reasons. The Englishman, aged 49, was initially scheduled to face China's Si Jiahui in the opening round this Wednesday but will now be replaced by Iranian player Hossein Vafaei.

This decision follows a series of recent withdrawals by O'Sullivan, who has been prioritizing his health and wellbeing. In February, he publicly apologized for missing several events, emphasizing the need to focus on his physical condition.

The World Grand Prix, a prestigious ranking event featuring the top 32 players of the season, is set to take place from March 4 to March 9. O'Sullivan's absence is notable given his impressive track record, having secured 41 ranking titles since turning professional in 1992.

O'Sullivan's recent activity on the World Snooker Tour (WST) has been limited, with his last participation ending prematurely during the Championship League in January. Notably, he snapped his cue after losing four out of five matches in his group stage.

Looking ahead, O'Sullivan is expected to return to the green baize for the World Snooker Championship in April. However, he will not be participating in this month's Players Championship and Tour Championship, as he no longer qualifies for these events.
