A Family Affair in Horse Racing

Willy Twiston-Davies, a prominent trainer, fondly recalls the 2010 Cheltenham Festival when Imperial Commander, trained by his father Nigel Twiston-Davies, clinched the Gold Cup. This victory remains a cherished memory for the Twiston-Davies family, who have made the festival a cornerstone of their equestrian legacy.

Willy, alongside his brother Sam, a top jockey, has been immersed in the racing world since childhood. "I remember it like it was yesterday," Willy shared. "Taking the day off school to watch Sam win the Fox Hunters and Pigeon Island take the Grand Annual—it was a truly special day for our yard."

Growing Together

The family’s yard in Gloucestershire has flourished under Willy’s involvement. "Training has always been in the back of my mind," he admitted. "I’ve watched my dad do it for so long, and now we work together seamlessly." The duo’s collaborative approach has led to significant success, with their yard already surpassing last year's prize money totals.

"We’ve had two very good seasons," Willy noted. "We’re pushing to get more horses in and aim to run 90 to 100 horses this season." Sam added, "Willy’s ambition is driving us forward, and his fresh perspective is invaluable."

The Twiston-Davies family’s impact on horse racing continues to grow. With Broadway Boy, Potters Charm, and Push the Button set to race at Cheltenham, their legacy is secure. "Families that work together are very special," Willy reflected. "We hope to remain in racing for generations to come."
