Angela Stanford to Lead Team USA at 2026 Solheim Cup in the Netherlands

Angela Stanford, a former major champion, has been named captain of the United States team for the 2026 Solheim Cup in the Netherlands.

Former major champion Angela Stanford has been appointed as the captain of the United States team for the 2026 Solheim Cup, set to take place in the Netherlands. This prestigious event, which pits the best female golfers from the United States against their European counterparts, will be held at Bernardus Golf from September 11-13, 2026.

Stanford, 47, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as an assistant captain in three previous editions of the Solheim Cup, most recently under Stacy Lewis in 2024. As a player, she made six appearances in the biennial event between 2003 and 2015, contributing to the last American victory on European soil in Germany a decade ago. Her decisive 2&1 victory over Suzann Pettersen in that match remains a highlight of her Solheim Cup career.

"I'm extremely grateful to be named the next American captain for the Solheim Cup and join a list of my heroes in the game," Stanford said. "I've always believed that I represent more than myself on the LPGA Tour, and there is no greater honour than representing your country. I consider this the pinnacle of my career and I'm looking forward to leading our players to the Netherlands."

Stanford retired from professional golf in 2024 after a remarkable 24-year career. She won seven times on the LPGA Tour, including her lone major victory at the Evian Championship when she was 40. Her consistency was unmatched, as she played in 98 consecutive majors, the longest streak in LPGA history.

As a Solheim Cup player, Stanford's record stands at three wins and three losses. Her leadership will be crucial as Team USA aims to defend their title, having won the Solheim Cup in 2023 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

The 2026 Solheim Cup will see Stanford face off against Anna Nordqvist, who will captain the European team. The event promises to be a thrilling contest between two of the most respected figures in women's golf.
