Alex Pereira Fires Back at Ankalaev's Greasing Allegations - UFC 313 Controversy Explained

Alex Pereira vehemently denies greasing accusations from Ankalaev's camp after losing UFC light-heavyweight title, sets sights on summer rematch.

Pereira Dismisses Controversial Greasing Claims

Alex Pereira has strongly refuted allegations from Magomed Ankalaev's coaching staff that he used substances to make his body slippery during their UFC 313 championship bout. The controversy emerged after Ankalaev captured Pereira's light-heavyweight title via decision in March 2025.

The Allegations and Immediate Response

Ankalaev's head coach claimed Pereira applied oil to his skin, potentially affecting the Russian fighter's ability to secure takedowns. However, Pereira demonstrated exceptional defensive skills, stuffing all 12 of Ankalaev's takedown attempts during the five-round affair.

"Absolutely did not put anything on my body," Pereira stated emphatically on the Ariel Helwani show. "This sounds like excuse-making for failed game planning. Should we blame Vaseline on the mats for Ankalaev's stumbles too?"

Historical Context of Pereira's UFC Career

The loss to Ankalaev marks only the second defeat in Pereira's remarkable UFC tenure, snapping a five-fight win streak that saw him capture championships in two different weight classes. Prior to this, only Israel Adesanya had bested Pereira in the octagon.

Rematch Already in the Works

Both fighters have expressed interest in an immediate rematch:

  • Ankalaev claims the UFC has offered an August date
  • Pereira confirms he'll sign the contract upon receipt
  • The Brazilian star promises to demonstrate "complete dominance" in their second meeting

"It doesn't have to be a knockout," Pereira noted, "but I have the skills to dictate this fight however I choose."

Technical Analysis of the First Fight

Key factors from UFC 313:

  1. Pereira's takedown defense: 100% success rate (12/12)
  2. Significant strike differential: +18 for Pereira
  3. Octagon control time: 58%-42% in Ankalaev's favor

What's Next for the Light Heavyweight Division?

With the division heating up, UFC President Dana White hinted this rivalry might headline an upcoming pay-per-view event. The winner could potentially face rising contender Johnny Walker later in 2025.
