Rory McIlroy Battles Elbow Injury Ahead of 2025 Masters Pursuit

Rory McIlroy struggles with an elbow issue before his bid for a career Grand Slam at Augusta. Can he conquer pain and history?

World No. 2 Rory McIlroy has revealed an elbow concern just days before his highly anticipated return to Augusta National for the 2025 Masters. The Northern Irishman's quest for the career Grand Slam faces a new physical challenge.

Injury Clouds McIlroy's Preparation

After finishing T5 at the Houston Open with a closing 64 (-6), McIlroy disclosed:

"My right elbow has been bothering me a bit. I'll get treatment to ensure I'm ready for Augusta."

The 35-year-old has arranged urgent sessions with coach Michael Bannon to fine-tune his game while managing the injury.

The Elusive Masters Crown

  • Career Grand Slam Bid: A Masters victory would make McIlroy just the 6th player to complete golf's career Grand Slam
  • Augusta Heartbreaks: Includes his 2011 final-round collapse and 2022 runner-up finish to Scheffler
  • 2025 Form: Won Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Players Championship earlier this season

Expert Analysis

"The elbow adds uncertainty," says Golf Digest's Tim Rosaforte. "McIlroy's driving remains elite (+1.2 SG: Off-the-Tee), but Augusta demands precision with longer irons - exactly where elbow pain could hurt most."

McIlroy remains optimistic: "My game isn't perfect yet, but this extra week helps." With treatment and his coach's guidance, golf's spotlight now turns to whether the four-time major winner can conquer both the course and his physical challenge.
