Postecoglou Concerned Over Maddison's Injury Ahead of Crucial Europa League Clash

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou expresses concern over James Maddison's injury as Spurs prepare for their Europa League semi-final second leg against Bodo/Glimt.

Tottenham Hotspur's manager, Ange Postecoglou, has raised concerns over the fitness of key midfielder James Maddison, describing his recent injury as "not looking great." This comes at a critical juncture as Spurs gear up for the second leg of their Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt this Thursday.

Maddison, who played a pivotal role in the first leg with a goal that helped Tottenham secure a 3-1 victory, was substituted in the second half due to the injury. His absence was felt in the subsequent Premier League match against West Ham, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Postecoglou, speaking after the game, indicated that the team is awaiting further medical assessments to determine the severity of Maddison's condition.

In addition to Maddison, striker Dominic Solanke was also sidelined for the West Ham game due to a minor knock. However, Postecoglou remains optimistic about Solanke's availability for the upcoming Europa League fixture, stating, "Dom is improving. We expect him to be OK for Thursday."

Amidst these injury concerns, there is a silver lining for Tottenham as captain Son Heung-min has returned to training after a month-long absence. However, the team will still be without midfielder Lucas Bergvall for the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury.

Postecoglou also commented on the challenges of rotating the squad amidst a congested fixture schedule, noting that frequent changes can disrupt the team's rhythm and fluency. Despite these challenges, he praised his team's discipline and organization in the recent derby against West Ham.

Looking ahead, if Tottenham can navigate past Bodo/Glimt, they will face either Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League final on May 21. This match not only offers a chance for silverware but also a coveted spot in the next season's Champions League, marking a significant milestone for the club since their last major trophy in 2008.
