KDM Evolution Trophy: Record Prize Pot and New Format Unveiled for Next Season's Challenge Cup

Discover the exciting changes and record prize pot for next season's KDM Evolution Trophy, Scotland's third cup competition.

The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has announced a groundbreaking update for next season's Challenge Cup, now rebranded as the KDM Evolution Trophy. With a record prize pot of £1.25 million, clubs will see a significant increase in earnings, with the winning team set to receive £150,000.

New Tournament Format

The competition will introduce a fresh format, starting with a group phase involving 10 League One clubs, 10 League Two clubs, and 10 Premiership B-Teams. Over six matchdays, points earned by each club will contribute to a single league table. The top 22 teams will advance to the seeded knock-out round of 32.

Championship Clubs' Entry

Championship clubs will enter the tournament at this stage as seeded sides, alongside the top six teams from the league phase. The remainder of the competition will follow a traditional knock-out format, ensuring thrilling matches and intense competition.

Increased Prize Money

The 50% increase in the prize pot reflects the SPFL's commitment to enhancing the competition's prestige and providing greater financial incentives for participating clubs. This move is expected to attract more attention and elevate the overall quality of the tournament.
