Manchester City have made a strategic move by signing English goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea. The 33-year-old, who previously played for Fulham, joins City on a contract that runs until 2026. This acquisition comes shortly after the announcement that veteran keeper Scott Carson will be leaving the club at the end of the month.

Bettinelli, who had one year remaining on his contract at Chelsea, expressed his excitement about the move:

"It's an honour to sign for City. I have admired from afar what this club have achieved since Pep Guardiola arrived and now, I am excited to be a part of building on that success."

He also highlighted his eagerness to work with the coaching staff and contribute to the team's success:

"I can't wait to work with Pep, Xabi Mancisidor and the excellent goalkeepers already here and see their methods up close. Hopefully I can contribute in training, the dressing room and on the pitch as we look to win more silverware over the next year."

Bettinelli, who joined Chelsea in 2021, made just one appearance for the Blues. However, his experience and skills are expected to be valuable assets for Manchester City as they prepare for the Club World Cup in America this month.

This signing marks City's second major acquisition of the summer, following the £31m capture of left-back Rayan Air-Nouri from Wolves. The club continues to strengthen its squad in pursuit of more trophies in the upcoming season.
