Rory Kleinveldt's Move from Northants to Western Province: A New Chapter in Cricket Coaching

Rory Kleinveldt transitions from Northamptonshire to Western Province, bringing a wealth of experience as both a player and coach.

Northamptonshire's lead bowling coach, Rory Kleinveldt, is set to depart the club next month to take on the role of head coach at Western Province in his native South Africa. The 42-year-old, who has a storied history with the Steelbacks, made 109 appearances as a player, securing 217 wickets and playing a pivotal role in their 2016 T20 Blast victory.

Kleinveldt, a former seamer who represented South Africa in four Test matches, returned to Northamptonshire in March 2024 to lead their bowling department. His tenure at the club has been marked by dedication and significant contributions both on and off the field.

Having spent 17 years playing for Western Province and serving as an assistant coach for two years prior to his move to Wantage Road, Kleinveldt's return to his home state is a homecoming of sorts. His appointment as head coach is expected to bring a fresh perspective and renewed energy to the team.

Ray Payne, Northamptonshire's chief executive officer, expressed gratitude for Kleinveldt's service, stating, "Everyone at Northamptonshire would like to thank Rory for all his dedication and contributions to the club both as a player and coach."

This transition marks a new chapter in Kleinveldt's career, as he brings his extensive experience and leadership to Western Province, aiming to elevate the team's performance in the competitive world of cricket.
