Manchester United's Ambitious 2028 Title Quest: A Deep Dive into Project 150

Explore Manchester United's bold Project 150 under Omar Berrada, aiming for Premier League and Women's League titles by 2028.

Manchester United's CEO, Omar Berrada, remains steadfast in his ambitious goal to celebrate the club's 150th anniversary in 2028 by clinching both the men's and women's league titles. This initiative, known as 'Project 150', was first introduced to the staff in September 2024. The club, originally established as Newton Heath in 1878, is determined to mark this significant milestone with a triumphant return to the pinnacle of English football.

The Challenge Ahead

Despite the men's team enduring their worst domestic season since the 1973-74 relegation and the women's team facing the daunting task of overcoming Chelsea's unbeaten Treble winners, Berrada is optimistic. In a detailed interview with the United We Stand fanzine, he emphasized the importance of setting high targets. "It's establishing a series of targets within a timeframe so we can focus our efforts and energy on that goal," Berrada stated.

Learning from Barcelona

Berrada draws inspiration from his time at Barcelona, where he witnessed a remarkable turnaround. In 2002-03, Barcelona finished sixth, 22 points behind Real Madrid, but just three years later, they were Champions League winners. "I firmly believe we can do it," Berrada asserted, highlighting the potential for rapid transformation.

Building for Success

With two to three summer transfer windows ahead, Berrada is confident in building a competitive team. "We've just finished 15th and it seems an impossible task. But why not aim for it? Why not do everything in our power?" he questioned. The recent £50m upgrade at United's Carrington training ground is seen as a significant step forward, benefiting both the men's and women's teams.

Commitment to Women's Football

Berrada is equally committed to the success of the women's team. "We have been a bit distracted with all the issues around the men's first team but we are committed to making the women's team very successful," he said. Reflecting on minority owner Jim Ratcliffe's philosophy, Berrada added, "If you're wearing the United shirt then you must win."

Looking Ahead

Berrada acknowledges the challenges ahead but remains optimistic. "It won't be easy," he admitted. "There'll be some difficult moments ahead. Nothing is going to get solved with one summer window, but we are on the right path." With the worst of the transformation phase behind them, Berrada is confident that Manchester United will reclaim their place at the top of English football.
