Trawlerman Dominates Gold Cup at Royal Ascot with Record-Breaking Victory
Trawlerman sets a new track record at Royal Ascot's Gold Cup, delivering a stunning performance under jockey William Buick.

Trawlerman made history at the Royal Ascot by winning the Gold Cup in a record-breaking time of 4 minutes and 15.02 seconds, surpassing the previous record set by Rite of Passage 15 years ago. Jockey William Buick delivered a masterful front-running ride, leading the 85-40 favorite to a commanding seven-length victory over Illinois, with Dubai Future finishing third.
Buick, who was winning the Gold Cup for the first time, praised Trawlerman's exceptional stamina and rhythm. "I was just a passenger. He's got that lung capacity and stamina. He got in a great rhythm, but he's so genuine," Buick said after the race.
Trained by John and Thady Gosden, Trawlerman had finished second in the previous year's Gold Cup to the now-retired Kyprios. This victory marked the Gosdens' fifth win of the week at Royal Ascot, adding to their impressive record in the event.
The race took place under scorching temperatures of 30C, which led to heat-related issues for some attendees. Despite the challenging conditions, Trawlerman thrived on the good to firm going, showcasing his extraordinary abilities over the grueling two-and-a-half-mile distance.
In other notable performances, Ryan Moore secured a treble on the day, further cementing his status as one of the top jockeys in the sport. Moore's victories included wins aboard Charles Darwin, Garden of Eden, and Trinity College, showcasing his versatility and skill.
The 2025 Royal Ascot continues to deliver thrilling moments and record-breaking performances, solidifying its place as one of the premier events in the horse racing calendar.
