Premier League Investigates Chelsea Over Boehly's Vivid Seats Ticket Controversy
The Premier League has contacted Chelsea regarding Todd Boehly's involvement with Vivid Seats, an unauthorized ticket reseller, raising concerns over conflicts of interest.

The Premier League has officially reached out to Chelsea Football Club to seek clarification on the club's association with Vivid Seats, a ticket reselling platform in which Todd Boehly, a director and investor at Chelsea, holds a significant stake. Vivid Seats, described as an "unauthorized ticket seller" by the league, has been listing Chelsea matches on its platform, with some tickets for last season's games at Stamford Bridge being sold for as much as £20,000.
Conflict of Interest Concerns
Chelsea Supporters' Trust has raised serious concerns about this arrangement, labeling it a "breach of trust" and a "clear conflict of interest." In an open letter issued in March, the Trust urged the Premier League to investigate the matter. Premier League CEO Richard Masters confirmed that discussions with Chelsea are ongoing, as revealed during a recent Football Supporters' Association event.
Government Involvement
The Chelsea Supporters' Trust has also submitted evidence against Vivid Seats to the UK's Department for Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS), highlighting the potential legal and ethical issues surrounding the ticket reselling practices.
Market Impact
Vivid Seats CEO Stanley Chia has cited "economic and political volatility" as factors impacting the ticketing market, with the company's share price plummeting by 61% this year. Despite these challenges, Chelsea has pledged to take action against ticket touting, though specific measures targeting Vivid Seats or other resellers have yet to be detailed.
Stadium Atmosphere
Concerns about the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge have also been raised, with former manager Mauricio Pochettino and current head coach Enzo Maresca both noting a "flat" environment during certain matches. The club has experimented with a singing section in the Conference League to address these issues.
Upcoming Matches
Chelsea is currently competing in the Club World Cup in the United States, with their next match against ES Tunis scheduled for Tuesday night in Philadelphia.
