Former Hibernian defender Darren McGregor will miss his testimonial match due to a recent accident but will still honor his legacy at Easter Road.

Former Hibernian defender Darren McGregor will unfortunately miss playing in his own testimonial match following a road traffic accident last week. The 39-year-old, who retired from playing in 2023 and transitioned into coaching, underwent surgery and is currently recovering. Despite this setback, McGregor will still be present at the event to celebrate his illustrious career.
The Accident and Recovery
McGregor was involved in a vehicle collision on Friday evening, 20 June 2025, and is now recuperating at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Hibernian FC expressed their sadness over the incident but wished McGregor a speedy recovery.
The Testimonial Match
Hibs are set to face Bolton Wanderers in McGregor's testimonial on 19 July. Although he won't be able to play, McGregor will meet supporters inside Easter Road Stadium and in the hospitality suites. He will also walk out onto the pitch for an interview to thank the Hibs fans for their unwavering support throughout his career.
A Storied Career
McGregor made over 400 club appearances, with the majority coming during his eight years at Hibernian. He also featured for St Mirren and Rangers, leaving a lasting impact on Scottish football.
Honoring a Legend
This testimonial match is a celebration of McGregor's fantastic career and his contributions to Hibernian and Scottish football. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the event will serve as a fitting tribute to a true Hibs legend.
