Bayer Leverkusen has completed the signing of defender Jarell Quansah from Liverpool in a £35 million deal. The 22-year-old centre-back has joined the German Bundesliga club on a five-year contract, marking a significant addition to their defensive lineup.

Quansah, who has made 14 appearances for England Under-21s, was part of the England side that triumphed in the European Under-21 Championship, defeating Germany in the final on Saturday. His move to Leverkusen is the third deal between the two clubs this summer, following Liverpool's acquisition of midfielder Florian Wirtz and defender Jeremie Frimpong.

Liverpool had previously turned down a proposal from Newcastle last summer, which involved sending winger Anthony Gordon to Liverpool in exchange for Quansah. The young defender came through the Liverpool academy, making 58 appearances for the club and scoring three goals. He played a crucial role in Liverpool's League Cup victory in 2024 and made 13 league appearances last season as Arne Slot's side clinched the Premier League title.

Leverkusen's sporting director, Simon Rolfes, praised Quansah's impact, stating, "He has already made an impressive impact in a Liverpool defence dominated by world-class players. With Jarell, our defence gains significant dynamism, pace, and toughness in tackling. He's another very important building block for the future."

Meanwhile, Liverpool is reportedly interested in Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, as uncertainty looms over the futures of Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez. Konate has 12 months left on his contract at Anfield and has yet to agree to an extension, while Gomez's future also remains unclear.
