Kyogo Furuhashi Joins Birmingham City: A New Chapter in Championship Football
Birmingham City secures Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi from Rennes, bolstering their squad for the Championship season.

Birmingham City has made a significant addition to their squad by signing Kyogo Furuhashi, the former Celtic forward, from French Ligue 1 side Rennes. The transfer fee remains undisclosed, but the deal marks a strategic move for the Blues as they prepare for the upcoming Championship season.
Furuhashi, who has been capped 23 times by Japan and scored five international goals, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record. During his time with Celtic, he scored an impressive 85 goals in 165 appearances, including being the Scottish Premiership's top scorer in the 2022-23 season with 27 goals. His tenure at Celtic also saw him win four Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups, and three Scottish League Cups.
Despite joining Rennes in January 2025 for a reported £10 million, Furuhashi returns to British football just six months later. His move to Birmingham City reunites him with compatriot Tomoki Iwota and strengthens a squad that has already seen several high-profile signings this summer, including Bright Osayi-Samuel, Demarai Gray, and Tommy Doyle.
Chris Davies, Birmingham City's manager, expressed his excitement about the signing, stating, "Kyogo is a world-class forward with a remarkable goal-scoring ability. His experience and leadership will be invaluable as we aim for success in the Championship."
Furuhashi's arrival is expected to inject fresh energy into Birmingham's attack, providing fans with much to look forward to in the new season. The club's ambitious recruitment drive underscores their determination to compete at the highest level and make a strong impact in the Championship.
