ICC Expands Global Reach with New African Member Applications and USA Cricket Update
The ICC is considering new Associate member applications from Burkina Faso, Mauritius, and Burundi, while USA Cricket faces compliance challenges.

ICC Considers New African Member Applications
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to review applications from three African nations—Burkina Faso, Mauritius, and Burundi—to become Associate members. These countries are preparing to submit the necessary documentation before the December deadline. The trio had initially hoped for consideration at this year's ICC Annual General Meeting (AGM) but faced delays due to administrative queries.
Expansion of ICC Membership
At the recent AGM in Singapore, the ICC welcomed Zambia and Timor-Leste as new Associate members, increasing the total number of member countries to 110. Zambia, which was expelled in 2021 due to governance issues, has now been reinstated.
USA Cricket Compliance Concerns
USA Cricket remains under scrutiny by the ICC for ongoing compliance issues. The ICC has decided to keep USA Cricket 'on notice' rather than impose an outright suspension. This decision allows USA Cricket more time to address governance, financial, and administrative concerns. A key focus for USA Cricket is meeting the criteria set by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee for National Governing Body (NGB) status, which is essential for cricket's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Governance Reforms
The ICC has mandated comprehensive governance reforms for USA Cricket, including the completion of free and fair elections within a three-month period. USA Cricket was initially placed on notice at the 2024 AGM in Sri Lanka for non-compliance with ICC membership criteria.
Cricket Chile Update
Cricket Chile, which was also placed on notice, has successfully addressed governance issues to the ICC's satisfaction.
