Leanne Crichton Poised to Lead Rangers Women's Team as New Head Coach

Leanne Crichton is in advanced talks to become the new head coach of Rangers Women, following Jo Potter's departure to Crystal Palace.

Glasgow City assistant manager Leanne Crichton is emerging as the leading candidate to take over as the new head coach of Rangers Women, according to sources close to the club. The former Scotland international has held positive discussions with the Ibrox hierarchy and is expected to succeed Jo Potter, who recently moved to manage Crystal Palace.

Crichton’s Impressive Football Journey

Leanne Crichton, 37, boasts a rich footballing career both on and off the pitch. She has had three playing stints with Glasgow City, and also represented Celtic, Hibernian, Notts County, and Motherwell, where she began her coaching journey. Returning to Glasgow City in November, she has been assisting Leanne Ross, further honing her coaching skills.

A Decorated Player and Pundit

As a midfielder, Crichton earned 72 caps for the Scotland national team, showcasing her talent on the international stage. Post-retirement, she has become a prominent figure in Scottish football media, regularly appearing as a pundit on BBC Scotland’s football coverage.

Rangers’ Recent Success

Under Jo Potter’s leadership, Rangers Women achieved significant success, securing a domestic cup double in both of her seasons in charge and finishing third in the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) last term. Crichton’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to build on this foundation and drive the team to greater heights.

Looking Ahead

Rangers Women are currently preparing for the new SWPL season, with a pre-season training camp in Italy. Their campaign kicks off on 17 August with an away match against Montrose. Fans will be eager to see how Crichton’s leadership shapes the team’s performance in the upcoming season.
