Oliver Bearman: Embracing Growth in His First Full Formula 1 Season

Oliver Bearman is ready for an exciting first full season in Formula 1, aiming for growth and development with Haas.

Oliver Bearman, the promising young star from Chelmsford, is gearing up for his inaugural year as a full-time driver in Formula 1, set to race with the US-based Haas team in 2025. At just 20 years old, Bearman has already made waves in the sport, having debuted last season as a replacement driver for Ferrari during Carlos Sainz's health issues. His remarkable journey has positioned him as the third-youngest driver in F1 history, following renowned drivers like Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll.

In 2024, Bearman further showcased his talents by competing in several races for Haas, where he secured a championship point with a commendable 10th place finish in Azerbaijan. Reflecting on Haas's success last season, where they surprisingly finished 7th in the constructors' standings, Bearman expressed optimism about continuing this upward trajectory.

"Haas had a great season last year. They were unexpected but a fantastic result for the team," Bearman stated in an interview with BBC Look East.

However, as he looks forward to the new challenges of the upcoming season, Bearman admits it is difficult to assess where the team stands compared to its rivals. "My goals are really just looking at myself ... I want to be proud of my performances, see continuous growth and development throughout the year," he emphasized.

Bearman’s enthusiasm for the sport has been evident since childhood. Having started karting at a young age, he has long dreamed of competing alongside legends like Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen. "I had a taste of it last year, which left me wanting more. This year I get 24 shots, so I’m really excited!"

He recalled the intensity of his first race with Ferrari. "The most difficult day of my life was being thrown into an F1 car, particularly a red one. But it’s been a rewarding experience and I’ve learned so much. Racing against Lewis in every race was a surreal dream come true."

In preparation for a demanding full season ahead, Bearman has been enhancing his physical condition during the winter months. The physicality of F1 is often underestimated, and for Bearman, the rigorous training schedule has become a significant part of his commitment to the sport.

"I don’t think people quite understand how much goes on in the background. My physical training is really ramping up. It’s essential for me to be in top shape as I transition from national to worldwide racing, which requires immense dedication. But I’m ready for it, as racing is my passion."

With four other British drivers on the grid, Bearman is set to make his mark in the thrilling world of Formula 1. His determination to grow and develop throughout the season is clear, and fans eagerly await his performance on the track.
