Claressa Shields Makes History as First Undisputed Three-Weight Champion

Claressa Shields clinched her place in boxing history by becoming the first undisputed three-weight champion in the four-belt era.

Claressa Shields has once again showcased her extraordinary talent and determination by becoming the first undisputed champion in three weight classes in the four-belt era. This ground-breaking achievement was solidified during her recent clash against Danielle Perkins for the women's heavyweight title in Michigan.

At just 29 years old, Shields demonstrated her dominance in the ring, winning the bout by unanimous decision with a commanding performance. The highlight of the fight came in the dying seconds of the 10th round when she landed a devastating right hand that sent Perkins to the canvas, leaving no doubt about her superiority.

Shields, who previously held undisputed titles at middleweight and light-middleweight, reflected on her monumental victory with a mix of joy and disbelief. "It feels unbelievable," she expressed, adding, "I had a really hard training camp. And just last Friday, I tore my labrum in my left shoulder, so I wasn't able to use my good jab today." Despite the setback, she was determined to fight, stating, "I didn't want to call the fight off because I had asked God to give me a big fight in my hometown. He did that. So I decided to keep going through with it."

Her resilience paid off, and Shields expressed her happiness, stating, "I feel so happy. And shout out to my opponent, Danielle Perkins. Man, that girl was strong as hell."

With this historic win, Shields joins a select group of boxing legends. The last undisputed heavyweight champion from the United States was Riddick Bowe, who achieved this feat in 1992 during the three-belt era. Shields' triumph not only cements her legacy in women's boxing but also paves the way for future generations of female fighters striving for greatness in the ring.
