Jamie Ritchie Embarks on New Adventure: Leaving Edinburgh for Perpignan

Scotland captain Jamie Ritchie announces his departure from Edinburgh for a fresh start with Perpignan in France.

Jamie Ritchie's Major Move

In a shocking turn of events for Scottish rugby, Jamie Ritchie, the esteemed back-row and captain of Scotland, is set to leave Edinburgh Rugby for French Top 14 side Perpignan at the conclusion of the current season. The 28-year-old veteran has expressed his desire for a new challenge and lifestyle, marking a significant moment in his career.

“I have literally grown up at this club over the last 10 years, and this has been an incredibly hard decision for me and my family to move on,” Ritchie stated, reflecting on his deep-rooted commitment to Edinburgh. Having joined the club straight from school, he has developed not only as a player but also as a leader, evident by his recent role as captain during the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

A Heartfelt Farewell

Ritchie expressed gratitude towards everyone involved in his journey, emphasizing, “I have absolutely loved my time here, and I am extremely grateful to everyone who has been a part of that journey. This club means so much to me.” However, he is ready to embrace the possibilities that lie ahead in a new country with different experiences.

Despite Edinburgh's hopes to extend his contract, Ritchie’s determination to venture into new territory has prompted coach Sean Everitt to respect his decision. “We have tried our best to keep Jamie at the club, but we must respect his personal decision,” said Everitt. “We wish him the very best in this move to Perpignan.”

Looking Ahead

As Ritchie gears up for his farewell, he assures fans that his dedication remains intact. “There is still a lot of rugby to be played until the end of the season, and I know I will give my all every time I pull on the Edinburgh jersey.” With his impressive 55 international caps and experience on the global stage, Ritchie’s impending move has sparked significant interest and speculation within the rugby community.

Edinburgh now faces a future without one of its most influential players, while Ritchie looks forward to a new chapter that promises to stretch his limits in a vibrant new rugby environment in France.
