Jeremiah Azu Secures Back-to-Back British Indoor Men's 60m Crown in Thrilling Finish

Jeremiah Azu clinched his second consecutive British indoor men's 60m title in Birmingham, setting the stage for the upcoming European Indoor Championships.

A Nail-Biting Victory for Azu

Jeremiah Azu successfully defended his British indoor men's 60m title, edging out his competitors by a mere 0.06 seconds at the British Indoor Athletics Championships in Birmingham. Azu clocked in at a personal best-equaling time of 6.56 seconds, just enough to secure the top spot on the podium ahead of John Otugade and Andrew Robertson. The entire eight-man field was separated by only 0.22 seconds, highlighting the intensity of the competition.

"It's amazing. I don't think words can describe it," Azu remarked. "I love what I do—entertaining people in the right way. One wrong step and you're out of the race. I'm a winner at heart, and what my heart wanted, it got."

Women's 60m: Williams' Triumphant Moment

In the women's 60m event, Bianca Williams achieved a personal best time of 7.19 seconds to claim her first title. Reflecting on her journey, Williams said, "I've had so many ups and downs, but I feel like I'm on a great path now and I'm over the moon. It's so nice to be number one, I'm so happy. I know I'm in great shape and I can't wait for the European Championships."

Hurdles and Para Events

Abigail Pawlett also made headlines by setting a personal best of 8.09 seconds in the women's 60m hurdles, narrowly beating Emma Nwofor by 0.02 seconds, with Marli Jessop taking third. In the men's hurdles, Daniel Goriola, who won bronze in 2024, triumphed over Iola Grant and William Ritchie-Moulin. The para 60m events saw Zac Shaw and Sophie Hahn emerge as the men's and women's champions, respectively.

Event Interruption and Upcoming Championships

Earlier in the day, the competition faced a delay of approximately 90 minutes due to the evacuation of the Utilita Arena following a fire in a nearby flat. Despite the disruption, the athletes delivered exceptional performances. The focus now shifts to the European Indoor Championships, scheduled to take place in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, from March 6 to 9.

Stay tuned for more updates as these athletes prepare to represent Britain on the European stage.
