Jorge Martin's Recovery Journey: MotoGP Champion Faces Extended Absence

MotoGP champion Jorge Martin may miss the first four races of the season due to injury recovery, impacting the championship standings.

MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin has revealed that he might be sidelined until the fifth round of the championship as he continues to recover from surgery. The 27-year-old Spaniard, who missed the opening race in Thailand, sustained fractures to his hand and foot during a crash in pre-season testing.

Upcoming Races

The next grand prix is set to take place in Argentina this weekend, followed by the Americas Grand Prix in Austin at the end of March. The fourth round will be held in Qatar from 11-13 April.

Martin's Struggles

"I'm really suffering, it's not my moment. I'm struggling to recover as fast as I would like," Martin admitted. "I can also say that I won't be in Austin. I would like to be there but I won't be racing. I don't know if I can also be [racing] in Qatar."

Recovery and Testing

Martin emphasized the importance of a proper recovery process. "This is still really early, for sure I would like to make some kind of test before coming back to racing because I'm not feeling really good. I know Massimo [Rivola, Aprilia team principal] also is working on that, so let's see if we can make it possible."

Previous Surgery

Martin, who claimed his maiden MotoGP world title last year, previously underwent surgery after breaking his right hand in a crash on the first day of pre-season testing.

Current Standings

After the first round in Thailand, six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez leads the standings. Martin is hopeful to return for his home Grand Prix in Spain, which begins on 25 April.

Impact on the Championship

Martin's extended absence could significantly impact the championship standings, giving other riders an opportunity to gain an early advantage. Fans and analysts alike will be closely watching his recovery progress and potential return to the track.
