Chelsea's Club World Cup celebrations took an unexpected turn when US President Donald Trump joined the festivities. Following Chelsea's decisive 3-0 victory over Paris St-Germain in New Jersey, Trump presented the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James. Despite initial expectations that he would exit the stage after the presentation, Trump chose to stay, sharing the moment with James and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

James recounted the experience, saying, "They told me that he was going to present the trophy and then exit the stage, and I thought that he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay." Trump congratulated the team and encouraged them to savor their triumph.

Cole Palmer, who scored twice in the final, expressed his surprise, "I knew he was going to be here but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy. I was a bit confused, yes."

The event, held at MetLife Stadium, was attended by 81,118 fans and featured extensive pre-match entertainment and a half-time show. Trump, who watched the game alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, shared his enjoyment of the match in a halftime interview with Dazn, "I'm having a really great time."

In a later interview, Trump praised Infantino's leadership in football, "Gianni is a friend of mine, he's done such a great job with the league and with soccer - or as they would call it 'football', but I guess we call it soccer. I'm not sure that change could be made very easily."

When humorously suggested that he could issue an executive order to rename the sport to "football" in the US, Trump smiled and responded, "I think we could do that. I think I could do that."

The United States, along with Canada and Mexico, is set to host the 2026 men's World Cup, further cementing the country's growing influence in the global football community.
